What Is Humanistic Capitalism?

Brunello Cucinelli has built more than a fashion house. He has articulated a philosophy.

At the center of that philosophy is an idea he has described as “Humanistic Capitalism”: a vision of enterprise in which profit, human dignity, beauty, responsibility and respect for the individual are not competing interests, but principles capable of existing together.

It is an extraordinary ideal. But ideals invite examination.

What does Humanistic Capitalism look like beyond Solomeo? What happens when a philosophy conceived by one man must be carried out by executives, managers, human-resources departments, subsidiaries, retail operations and business partners across different countries and cultures?

And when allegations made in courtrooms or other public forums appear to conflict with those ideals, what—if anything—does that tell us?

The purpose of this site is not to declare that every allegation made against Brunello Cucinelli or its related entities is true. A lawsuit is not a verdict. An accusation is not a judicial finding. The Dream of Solomeo

Solomeo represents an ambitious proposition: that business can be conducted while preserving human dignity.

The question explored here is not whether that dream is beautiful. It is whether the dream survives contact with the institution built around it.

Is Humanistic Capitalism consistently reflected throughout the organization? Is there a disconnect between philosophy and practice? Are the matters documented here isolated disputes inherent to operating an international company, or do they reveal something more significant?
